The new Optical Roto-Cut vegetable trimmer has been selected by the panel at Fruit Logistica as a finalist for the FLIA Technology award. The Optical Roto-Cut is among the top 10 most promising innovations within the entire fruit and vegetable supply chain, from production to the point of sale.
In the ever-evolving landscape of agriculture, innovation takes center stage, and we are thrilled to share some exciting news. Our Optical Roto-Cut vegetable trimmer has been nominated as one of ten finalists by the panel of judges at Fruit Logistica for the Fruit Logistica Innovation Award (FLIA). The FLIA honors outstanding innovations in the entire fruit and vegetable supply chain, from production to the point of sale. Innovations can be products, services or technical innovations.
The Optical Roto-Cut represents a shift in vegetable processing technology. Developed in house at Wyma Solutions, it is a unique, fully automated vegetable trimming system to remove foliage, crowns, and tails from vegetables prior to packing or processing. The Optical Roto-Cut is the first of its kind to use a combination of optical technology, a smart recognition system and artificial intelligence to individually determine the size and shape of each vegetable and the appropriate point at which it should be cut – precisely sizing, determining the cut point, and making the cut, all in just 0.2 of a second. This solution improves the sustainability and efficiency of operations with proven real-world reductions in labour of over 80%, increased cutting accuracy, overall yield and reducing waste by as much as 20%.
This recognition is a testament to our commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology in the food processing sector. We are proud to be at the forefront of innovation, changing the way vegetables are trimmed and processed.
The final phase of the competition will be held at Fruit Logistica in Berlin, 7-9 February 2024, where visitors of the exhibition will vote for the three final winners of the award. The Optical Roto-Cut will be at the Wyma stand and operating with both parsnips and carrots for live demonstrations. If you are attending Fruit Logistica 2024, be sure to stop by our stand A-40 in Hall 2.1 to see the Roto-Cut Vegetable Trimmer in action!
