Refrigerated Bunker Hopper

Wyma’s Refrigerated Bunker Hopper gently receives produce in water, where it is stored at a controlled temperature.


Our Refrigerated Bunker Hopper gently receives and stores produce in water. Produce is stored at a controlled temperature prior to packaging, eliminating the need for boxes/bins.

Our experienced design engineers customise your Bunker Hopper refrigeration to suit the temperature you want your outfeed produce to be. Sensors inside the bunkers measure water temperature.

Flumes or conveyors gently carry produce to the bunker. Jets of water in the base of the bunker move produce towards the outfeed elevator. Speed controlled outfeed elevators carry produce to the next stage in your line.

The Refrigerated Bunker Hopper can also be used for dry storage. Produce is loaded in wet then water is removed from the tank via pump.

This system is a great time-buffer. Produce can be stored overnight or over the weekend so you can start processing when you are ready.

  • Produce can be cooled to a core temperature as low as 2º Celsius (with appropriate dwell time in the tank)
  • Tanks equipped with water jets to assist with forward movement of produce
  • Air agitation ensures produce does not bind together
  • Speed controlled out-feed elevator
  • Stainless steel out-feed elevator with modular plastic belt and cleats to remove produce from the bunker
  • Tanks supplied with integrated cleaning pump in each bunker for hosing out
  • Pumps and pipe work to manage water recirculation between and within the tanks
  • Water recirculation within the tanks incorporated with a rotary filtration system to assist with removal of any fibrous material that could make its way into the tanks
  • Automated control valves for internal water jets
  • Platforms, walkways and frames can be provided around the bunkers to allow easy access for maintenance and produce inspection
  • Scoop type cleats minimise roll-back and efficiently carry produce to the out-feed. This ensures produce through-put is maximised and produce damage minimised
  • Speed controlled via a variable speed drive to allow out-feed rate to be optimised to conditions and pack-out rates
  • Full length elevators, running from the bottom of the tanks to the exit point, mean that tanks can be fully emptied of produce
  • Automated water control valves for internal water jets and water circulation
  • Rotary filtration system to assist with removal of solids over 0.5mm from circulating water
  • Cooling coils provided in the buffer storage tank to maintain water temperature
  • Internal cleaning bars provide water wash down for automated tank wash-out
  • Cleaning sump integrated into tank design for efficient draining and easy cleaning
